Our fantastic school trip to England (2018)

| 28. August 2018

All the students of year 8 met at the bus stop in front of our school on a Monday morning in March. We put the suitcases into the bus, said „goodbye“ to our parents and finally entered the busses! The classes 8c and 8f were together in one bus with the five funny teachers Ms V., Ms M., Ms W., Mr H. and Mr G.. It took about 5 hours to reach the French and English border in Calais, where we had to get off the bus to show our passports. It was quite exciting. On the ferry we had a first break from hearing the teachers laughing, especially Ms W., and you have to know that the teachers sat downstairs, but we could hear them even upstairs! There on the ferry we had a chance to test our English, because we met many students from France. After about 1 hour we arrived in Dover and continued our travel to Brighton. Everything was so amazing! In the evening we met our host families. We went home with them, ate dinner and went to sleep after a long and exciting day.

On Tuesday we met in the morning to go to Brighton by bus. We saw the fantastic Pier, the Royal Pavillion, the Lanes and much more. It was so new for us, but we really liked it. Later in the afternoon we went to the cliffs near Eastbourne. The weather was nice so we walked on the cliffs for more than 2 hours. That was really exhausting but the views were brilliant. As every evening we went back to our host families to eat and sleep.

Very early on the next morning we started our trip to London. We got off at the London Eye. What a first impression – wow! Our teachers led us through a part of the city. We saw Big Ben which unfortunately was under construction, passed Westminster Abbey and walked past Downing Street Number 10, where the Prime Minister lives. We were happy to see some guards on horses before we crossed St James Park to Buckingham Palace. After that we went to Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Street where most of us went shopping. There were many German groups in London. The sights are great but the city is very, very full.

It was great that we visited Brighton again on Thursday. We had the chance to walk around without the teachers, so we had time to relax on the beach, go onto the Pier to have fun or to go shopping again. The city is really nice and everyone found something interesting to do there.
On Friday morning we had to say „goodbye“ to our host families. Together with our luggage they brought us to the bus. We drove to London again. This time we were dropped off at Greenwich, where the Time Meridian Line is. You can stand with one leg in the German time and with the other leg in the English time. They are 1 hour behind our time by the way. We walked through a park, saw the Cutty Sark and we went by boat into the city centre of London. We got off at several sights, for example at the Tower Bridge or at the Globe Theatre. Some students went by Tube into a museum, others did more sightseeing for example Trafalgar Square. From the O2 arena we started the trip back home. Most of us slept in the bus.

All in all it was a fantastic school trip. Thanks to the teachers and we already miss England!
